Nightly Question - 3/10/11

The second set of plagues present us with the novel idea of a differentiation between Egyptian and Israelite. What does this tell us about Hashem? Or, put differently, what lesson are the Egyptian to extract from this plague?

  1. This tells us and Paraoh that Hasehm is in fact the Divine Providence, He is among His people in a sense that He was able to differentiate between who did and did not get affected. The fact that He let the Israelites go unharmed in this set of makot proves He is with His chosen people and is truly in fact the one and only supreme G-d.

  2. The second set of plagues shows us that Hashem is the divinve one above us and has control over all the happens to the Israelites and Egyptians. Due to the fact that he could control who got hit by the plagues and who didn't get hit by them, shows that he is really the only g-d above and has the ability to act upon whatever he wants.

  3. Like the first set of plagues which showed that there is a true G-d of the world, the second set of plagues also carried a true overall objective. The objective of the second set of plagues was to show that Hashem not only existed, but that he was also involved in everything that goes on in our world. The fact that he was able to make the animals avoid the Jews and instead attack the Egyptians accomplishes this overall motive of Hashem.

  4. Hashem doesn't just set up dominos knock them over at walk away leaving everything to fall into place on its own. We now see that Hashem is playing an active role in Egypt. not only is he bringing plagues, but he's saying you're affected and you're not. This shows Hashem's power and role in the world. it also shows the Egyptians how powerful this god is and magicians or predictions of the stars may not be able to out smart him.
