Nightly Question - 3/16-17/11 - Plague of Slaying of First Born

Some say that this plague was still part of the educational process of Paro and incorporated all three aspects of his education. Others say that this plague was not part of the educational process but rather something else. (You can read the psukim on this plague 11:1-8) What do you think? Prove it!

  2. I believe this plague incorporated all 3 aspects of the message HASHEM was trying to get across. It just makes sense. If the first three sets were split up with three plagues in each one and each getting across one message about HASHEM, it works well for the final plague (which is the biggest one) to basically sum it all up and have all 3 lessons in it.

  3. Rabbi, it is simple. G-d brought the plagues for one purpose: To free the Jews and get us out of Egypt. Therefore, when Hashem brings the final plague of killing the firstborn, he is doing it to ensure that Pharaoh must let the Jews go. However, believing that the purpose was solely for getting us out and not educational can be problematic, why 10 plagues? Why not just one massive plague to make Pharaoh want to leave? I believe the answer was to make Pharaoh suffer anymore. I don't believe G-d had any interest in showing Pharaoh he exists. The reason I believe this is because he killed the Egyptians. Therefore, there is no real message Hashem is conveying, He just wants Bnei to leave.

  4. I think that this was the final straw. God was fed up with the whole song and dance and was confident that His lesson plan had been cleared through. This wasn't to educate anymore rather, it was to finalize what Hashem promised Moshe.

  5. I think that God was not trying to teach Pharaoh any lessons anymore because the main purpose was to get the Jews out of Egypt. Now, all God wants is to get the Jews out of Egypt.
